| | | | Four Steps To Handle Car Dealer Fraud Yourself- If the problem is mechanical in nature or related to collision damage or a rolled-back odometer, have your own independent mechanic confirm it and have him or her prepare a written report for you. Include photographs if appropriate.
- Call and arrange for an in-person meeting with the manager of the dealership which sold you the car. Do not accept a meeting with anyone less than a manager. Bring along a trusted friend for the meeting, and insist that the friend attend the meeting in its entirety. Choose a friend who would be willing to testify on your behalf if the matter went forward into a lawsuit.
- Share with the manager any evidence of the fraud you may have, including your own mechanic’s report. Then make a very specific demand at the meeting for what you want. For instance, “I want you to refund my down payment, pay off my finance contract and completely unwind the deal.” The manager of course will try to sell you another car, but stick to your guns about what you want. Make a short letter to the manager which has your specific demand in it and deliver it to the manager, keeping a copy for yourself and for your friend.
